The Lady Islanders soccer team have gone through hard practices. Games in the sizzling heat, and yet, their desire to play has given them a positive push throughout the season.
The Islanders played against the Northeastern State University on Sunday, Oct. 14, at the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Dr. Jack Dugan Soccer and Track Field stadium. They took their defeat as a lesson. With the score being 3-0, the Islanders did not stop attempting to score.
The first half of the game, both teams had an outstanding and amazing defense, stopping each player from scoring. TAMU-CC and NSU kept fighting for the ball, both wanting it to stay on their home side.
Celia Hilsabeck #6, a Sophomore from McKinney, Texas, attempted three times to score but was blocked by the NSU goalie. Hilsabeck showed great support towards her teammates and motivated them to not give up. With her energy in the field, and her countless attempts to score, this pushed the Islanders to provide and give more defense and have other team players such as Dana Curtis #10, Mariah Ramon #5 and Addison Urbanus #26 attempt to score as well. Abbie Flax #42 played as the Islanders goalie and blocked three shots from NSU.
Roshelle Gray, a Senior English major attended the soccer game that Sunday afternoon.
“Seeing these girls play is very intense,” said Roshelle. “It makes me miss high school back when I used to play. I love coming to their games because their defense is amazing. They are those type of girls that are just running around with full energy. They may have lost, but it took the other team a good while to score because of how good the Islanders’ defense is.”
