A New Club is Tapping into TAMU-CC
March 9, 2023
Over the fall semester, two students decided to merge their love of tap dance and created Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi’s first tap club! The recently established club is looking for new members with any experience to grab some tap shoes and join them.
Tap dance is rhythmic and involves shoes that have metal attached to the toes and heels which create a synchronized sound when the dance begins.
“Tap’s my favorite dance, I’ve been dancing for sixteen years, and tap’s been my favorite for about ten of those years,” said Erin Jones, a junior at TAMU–CC and co-founder of Tapping into TAMU-CC.
When Jones first arrived at the Island University, she was hoping there would be an outlet for her to practice tap, but there wasn’t at the time. However, she met with a friend who had also been attending the university whose mother was their tap dance instructor. Jones then pitched the idea to begin a club for tap dance.

“Erin came up to me and she was like, you know what, I really want to do tap again,” said April Bourg, junior at TAMU-CC and co-founder of Tapping into TAMUCC. They began to toss the idea around to other students who expressed interest in the style of dance.
“Then this sort of became a thing, like we went through all the processes and now we’re here,” Bourg said.

Bourg and Jones hope to expose others to the world of tap dance and give them a safe space to express their creative outlets. As the spring semester continues, both Bourg and Jones hope to grow their club and have others not be afraid to be themselves.
“I hope to create a safe space for everybody. I want everybody to not be embarrassed or insecure about their abilities. I want them to be able to come and make music, dance, and have a good time together,” Jones said.
Tapping into TAMU-CC meets every Sunday from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Classroom East, room 117.
