On Wednesday, June 21st,  Pride Corpus Christi will host a Pride Night with the Corpus Christi Hooks for LGBTQIA+ community members and baseball fans. The game will take place at the Hooks’ home field, Whataburger Field, and begin at 6:00 pm.

    Members of the community who attend the event will witness a presentation and various LGBTQIA+ flags on display in Whataburger Field. Leona Lane Powers, Miss Gay Texas United 2020, will also be throwing the night’s first pitch. 

    “We try to think of a variety of activities that appeal to, you know, all members of the community,”  said Nami Fisher, treasurer of Pride Corpus Christi. “Some of us like sports, so we do the Hooks night and it’s just a fun event to do.”

    Pride Night at the Hooks is made possible by Pride Corpus Christi, which focuses on bringing together the Corpus Christi area to celebrate its LGBTQIA+ communities. Along with organizing events for community members, Pride Corpus Christi also focuses on advocating for members of the LGBTQIA+ community and their rights. 

    Pride Corpus Christi worked alongside the Corpus Christi Hooks to make this event a reality. 

    “We reached out to them and they, you know, they obviously welcomed us with open arms and said that they would love to have us out there,” Fisher said. 

    All members of the public are welcome to attend and celebrate with Pride Corpus Christi at Whataburger Field. 

    “I say come out because there’s, there’s so many people it’s a very welcoming, very friendly group. You know, don’t be afraid. You’ll be welcomed with open arms,” Fisher said. “We have a lot of fans, so we hope to meet some new people. And just that, you know, the more people we have, the stronger our community is.”
