Two straight wins for the Islanders volleyball team

The “Pack It Pink” game day for the Lady Islanders took over on Oct. 18, 2018 in the Dugan Wellness Center at 6:30 p.m. The Islanders went up to a fifth set against Lamar University, winning the first two sets 25-17 and 25-13. The third and the fourth set, however, was when Lamar took over.

The Islanders started off strong in the first two sets, leaving Lamar more than 10 points behind. With the help of #3 Madison Green, a Junior and the setter for the Islanders, helped the outside hitters aim for good spikes.

Lamar started off strong in the third set, 6-2, leaving the Islanders behind four points. It was not until the third and fourth set where the Islanders encountered #15 Tomar Thomas, a Senior from Lamar University. Thomas exploded her serves and spikes with such intensity, causing the Islanders to lose the third set, 25-14, and the fourth set, 25-19.

The fifth set left the crowd amazed on how good the Islanders defense and offense improved, with the game being “Pack It Pink” and the attendance higher than usual, the Islanders swept Lamar, 15-7.

On Oct. 20, 2018 in the Dugan Wellness Center, the Islanders had a quick easy win against McNeese State University, only going up to the third set.

The first set was intense, great defense from both teams, the score 27-25, with the McNeese only two points away. The second set was when McNeese was fighting for their win. McNeese was always up by two-three points, and being a tie most of the second set. However, the Islanders did not let McNeese take the win and ended the second set 27-25. The third and last set built up steam from both teams, causing it to be back and forth, the final score being 25-22. McNeese showed great defense, but the Islanders showed better offense.

The Islanders won two games in a row, building up confidence for their next game against Sam Houston on Oct. 25, 2018 in the Dugan Wellness Center at 6:30 p.m. Come out and show your support for the Islanders!
