The Advising Corner: general advising tips
February 19, 2019
Hello Islanders! We hope your Spring semester is going well. Here are some important things to keep in mind throughout the semester:
Academic Advising is now under the University College. Please visit our website for more information, http://dugs.tamucc.edu.
If you need to contact your academic advisors, you can find your assigned advisor by visiting, http://www.tamucc.edu/academics/academic_advising.html?utm_source=student_portal&utm_campaign=tamucc.edu&utm_medium=Academic_Advising.
— Feb. 26: If you believe you qualify for Spring 2019 graduation, please contact your academic advisor to review your degree plan and be sure to apply before the University’s deadline on your SAIL account.
—March 18: The Summer and Fall 2019 schedule will post on SAIL. You can seethe class schedules page by visiting, http://banner.tamucc.edu/schedule.
— April 1: Summer and Fall 2019 registration will open. You will be able to register depending on your classification (credits earned and credits enrolled). Please see below for the registration dates due to your classification:
— Monday, April 1 Graduate Students
— Tuesday, April 2 Seniors (90 hours or more)
— Wednesday, April 3 Juniors (60- 89 hours)
— Thursday, April 4 Sophomores (30 -59 hours)
— Friday, April 5 Freshman (0-29 hours)
— Keep in mind that you might have holds stopping you from registering. Please check to make sure you do not have any holds for missing transcripts, the “Think about it” course, CASA or for the Business Office.
— April 5 Deadline for Dropping with a “W” Grade: The grade of “W” will be assigned to any student dropping a course by the final date listed in the academic calendar. Once the drop date has passed, a student will not be allowed to drop a course. Talk with your advisor first if you are unsure about whether or not you should drop a course.
This is a great resource available to students! Advisors will refer to a student’s Degree Planner (DP) in almost every advising appointment. Students can access their Degree Planner through S.A.I.L. or by visiting, http://degreeplanner.tamucc.edu. You can log onto DP with your Islander ID. Degree Planner will show you everything you need to complete your degree. At the top, it will also list important information like your ID, classification, overall GPA, TAMU-CC GPA, catalog year, degree, college, major, etc.
Resources for Students:
Students can visit CASA for tutoring services, the Writing Center, supplemental instruction, and other academic support. CASA is committed to providing students the support they need to achieve independence in an inclusive and supportive environment. To learn more, you can visit, http://casa.tamucc.edu.
