On March 9, “The Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra” held their Grand Finale! concert to finish out their 2018–2019 season. Maestro Hector Guzman conducted the orchestra throughout the event.

“The Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra” was started in 1945 under the direction of C. Burdette Wolfe, making their debut at the Corpus Christi High School auditorium. The orchestra has continued playing over the decades and has become a staple of Corpus Christi’s culture.

The orchestra featured wonderful music produced by string and brass instruments. Guzman was clearly passionate with the music that he conducted. The raw emotion was evident on his face. The musicians did not miss a single beat as they played expertly. The instruments came in at the appropriate time and everything that was played at the event was evocative and moving.

“I thought it was absolutely wonderful,” said Peggy Clark, visiting from Falfurrias. “We’ve been season ticket holders for 53 years.”

Norma Gonzalez recalled memories of when she was young, living in Mexico and hearing this sort of music played live.

“Oh my gosh. It was beautiful,” said Marti Veith, a Corpus Christi resident. “The percussion section is incredible and they really do a great job. The season has just been amazing. We really enjoyed it.”

Although no announcements have been made as to the orchestra’s 2019–2020 schedule, they certainly ended this season on a high note.
