TAMU-CC takes on the TSU Tigers in first soccer game of fall 2019

On Friday, Sept. 6, 2019, TAMU-CC women’s soccer team broke a record, scoring 5-0 victory over the Texas Southern Tigers on Corpus own turf at the Dr. Jack Dugan Soccer and Track & Field Stadium in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Juniors Larissa Fagundes and Abby Deakin the team in scoring points this home game. From the start of the first half (at 6:37), scored the team’s first goal with a running assist pass from teammate Deakins.

At minute 22:10, Alana Mangan hit a free kick that Fagundes connected with, giving the Islanders a 2-0 lead over the Tigers. Deakins brought the score to 3-0 after her assisted goal from sophomore Reaghan Lang.
As the Islanders fought into the night, junior Mariah Ramon scored an unassisted goal at the 59:57 minute marker, and Deakin closed out the night with her second goal at the 70:15 marker.
With this win, TAMU-CC’s women’s soccer team moved 1-3 in the season, pushing the Tigers down 1-4 and making 3-0 all-time against TSU. The five scoring goals set a program record for most goals scored in a single game, a record that stood since October 2014.

Coach Craig Shaw called this game “a match for records books.”
“We went out there strong and the girls from the bench came in and continued going,” said Shaw.
This was Shaw’s 10th shutout win since becoming the new head coach in 2017.
