47-year-old Anthony Quintanilla is charged with sexual assault of a minor.  He is the estranged husband of TAMU-CC President Kelly Quintanilla.

According to KRIS 6 News, Anthony Quintanilla surrendered to Nueces County jail officials on Wednesday, Oct. 16, after a warrant was issued for his arrest. 

Nueces County Court records show that President Quintanilla filed for divorce from her husband on Oct. 2.

KRIS also said the Hamlin Middle School social studies teacher was accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student.

Corpus Christi ISD Police Chief Kirby Warnke told KRIS news that no additional information has or can be released because it is an ongoing investigation. 

Anthony Quintanilla’s bond has been set at  $300,000.

Update at 8:35 p.m., Oct. 16: Dr. Kelly M. Quintanilla, President and CEO, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, released the following statement to Island Waves:

“I want to state that I had no knowledge of the allegations made against Mr. Quintanilla. We lived apart for two years and are in the process of a divorce. If I had known or suspected any wrongdoing, I would have reported it to the authorities immediately. This is the only statement I will make regarding this situation and I ask for privacy for my daughter during this difficult time.”
