Recreational Sports is planning on hosting 10 Outdoor Adventures Excursions for the Spring semester of 2021. Those excursions include Geocaching in Corpus Christi parks, Camping Skills Expo, Paddling Goose Island, Paddling the Nueces, Skydiving, Kiteboard Lessons, Full Moon Beach Walk, Surfing Workshop, Exploring Canyon Lake Gorge and Challenge Course & Rock Wall.
These excursions events will take place in Corpus Christi or surrounding areas that happen to be nearby. Upon registration, students should be aware that some of these events will require payment when they register for specific activities. The registration fee will go towards the cost of reservations, vehicles, rentals, guides, equipment and much more.
Due to the university’s COVID-19 protocols, Rec Sports will have restrictions that require eight participants for each event with two accompanying Trip Leaders. This allows Rec Sports to keep each event at the capacity of a group size of 10 people in compliance with the restrictions set by the Governor. With the safety procedures students must remain wearing their masks unless they’re 10 feet away from each other in the water.
The Outdoor Program Coordinator, Cole Castleberry, mentioned how some of the Outdoor Adventures staff aren’t certified to do several activities so Rec Sports are having experts step in on excursions such as Kiteboarding and Skydiving. “My hope is that the participants have fun, get closer to nature, and possibly make some new friends while on our excursions,” said Castleberry, “I would like to remind the campus community that nearly all of the equipment that we use for our own camping and paddling excursions is available for rental. Castleberry continued, “Using this equipment is a great way to get out with friends and family, check out some new gear, and go on those unforgettable adventures.”
Drake Spradlin, Bio major with a concentration in marine, is planning to attend the Aransas wildlife preserve, the surfing workshop and the skydiving trip to enjoy the nature around it. Spradlin stated how the prices of these events are excellent to get the opportunity to learn how to do things. “I feel as though Rec Sports provides a wide range of activities and prices suitable for anyone, from gentle walks in the moonlight to plummeting towards the earth at terminal velocity,” said Spradlin, “I do enjoy the opportunity to do things like this every semester… I feel as though the chance to do these things greatly improves my college experience.”
